Observership

Last week, Adelaide Bariatric Centre played proud host to an international medical professional, Maia Routly-Mansfield. Maia joined us from Atlanta, Georgia USA, where she is a Nurse Practitioner and Program Manger of the Metabolic Clinic at the Children’s Hospital in Atlanta.

Maia was lucky enough to win the IFSO IH OBSERVERSHIPS GRANT for 2026. This meant she had to opportunity to come to Australia and visit a practice of her choice to enhance her medical knowledge and gain invaluable practical experience. We we very excited and proud to hear that she had chosen our clinic to observe.

While here, Maia sat in with Dr Chisholm, Nurse Jane Collins and our Dietitians Nick Wray and Fiona Stokoe. Thank you to everyone who allowed her to sit in and participate in your consultation. Maia will be presenting a report on her educational experience  at the next IFSO World Congress in Toronto.

It was so interesting to hear about the differences between the USA and Australia when it comes to healthcare. While there seems to be at lot of differences, it was great to hear that patient care is still the main driving factor for all of us.
