After 30 years of practicing bariatric and metabolic surgery, Professor Lilian Kow would like to share that she will be transitioning into semiretirement, effective 1st July 2026.  This means she will no longer be operating in the Private sector from July onwards. She will however continue to see patients for consultations until the end of the year from our rooms in Norwood.

While she is stepping back from private operating, she is committed to a seamless transition of care for those patients currently in their post-operative journey. The team at Adelaide Bariatric Centre will still be available for all regular scheduled care.

For any patients needing further surgical intervention or anyone experiencing acute complications, Dr Jacob Chisholm will providing ongoing surgical care. Dr Chisholm has been a co-director at the Adelaide Bariatric Centre since 2010 and shares Prof Kow’s vision and mission of a holistic approach to patient care.

Whilst she will be stepping back from private operating, she will continue her role at the Flinders Medical Centre as Clinical Director of GI Surgery and Head of Bariatric Surgery for the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SALHN) and as an Executive Board member for the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) on  a global level.

You can still reach Professor Kow the Adelaide Bariatric Centre for any specific questions regarding your ongoing care until the end of 2026.

Here at Adelaide Bariatric Centre, we sincerely thank Professor Kow for her years of service to our practice and the community. While we will miss her, we wish her all the best for her retirement.
